The Psalterium Institute Chamber Choir and Boy Choir Schola Cantorum will lead chanted Compline (Night Prayer) by candlelight in the beautiful neo-gothic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. The choirs will also offer several pieces for meditation and reflection including works by Josef Rheinberger and Thomas Tallis.

Compline means “completion” in Latin and is the prayer that closes each day in the Liturgy of the Hours. This office is contemplative in nature and much like the other canonical hours consists of psalms, hymns, prayers, and scripture. One distinctive element of this office is the inclusion of an examination of conscience or penitential rite at the beginning.
